Planning to make a trip to the underrated Southeast Asia travel destination known as Myanmar sometime in the not too distant future? Perhaps you’re not too sure where to park your kiester after an entire day of gallivanting across the various ancient monasteries, pagodas, and ancient sites that Myanmar has to offer?
Good news! There is a multitude of accommodation options ranging from the luxurious to the affordable to mid-range — depending on your local destination of choice, of course.
There Are Plenty of Accommodation Options In Myanmar
As far as places to spend the night, you really can’t go wrong with downtown Yangon as it’s one of the most populated areas in the city (which means more things to do!). From Botataung to North Dagon to Pazundaung, there are tons of hotel choices in Yangon city for you.
If you like to think yourself as a cultural traveller, mayhaps a stay at Botahtaung may be warranted as the area is rife with a plethora of decently-spaced colonial-era buildings. Notably, the tiny township in this massive city in Myanmar is also home to the ever-majestic Botahtaung Pagoda — for which the district was named after.
As for available hotel options, the luxurious visitors will appreciate the Strand Hotel as this is one of the better accommodations here. But if you’re looking for something a little less opulent then a stay at either Asia Plaza Hotel or the Millennium Hotel is suggested.
On the other hand, you may want to consider the ancient city of Bagan as your travel destination of choice the next time you visit the country. The recently inscribed UNESCO World Heritage Site, 11th-century city is located in the Mandalay region of Myanmar.
Here, you’ll find your accommodation options in one of two places — Old or New Bagan. Depending on your budget and preferences, either one would be the perfect spot to lay your head to rest after a day of exploring the olden ruins of the city.
More particularly, Old Bagan is placed within striking distance from several main temples like Bupaya Pagoda. Whereas, other attractions like Ananda Temple and Thatbyinnyu Temple are also mere steps away. Most hotels here are of the mid to upper-class range such as The Hotel @ Tharabar Gate or Aye Yar River View Resort.
On the other end of the spectrum, there’s actually barely any major attractions and important temples in and around the vicinity of New Bagan. Though the number of accommodation options here by far exceeds the amount in the “older” part of Bagan.
The luxurious Myanmar Treasure Resort Bagan and Villa Bagan come to mind. But if you’re looking for an affordable option, Ruby True Hotel is where you want to stay.
