Child of Light – A Game Review

child_of_lightFirst of all I have to start with WOW, as Ubisoft has achieved an art style with this game like none other I’ve ever seen!  This game has some of the most intriguing and charming characters a game could ask for, but what makes this game stand out most is it’s earthy colors and use of a hand painted art style.  This RPG gives a lot of love back to it’s predecessors as it pulls game mechanics such as exploration, crazy puzzles, and a fantastic combat system that’s become my favorite in the genre.  If you enjoy the RPG games, then this one will quickly become a gem as it’s rewarding, fun, and quickly pulls you into it’s world of mystery, magic, and elegance!

Child of Light has a hand crafted love that brings a stunning moment to each screen you see, as if it’s a piece of art you would see hanging in a gallery.  All of the characters have a warm inviting presence in the game that you can latch onto very quickly!  The bright colors are also offset by dark silhouettes of large mangled trees in the background that give you a sense of depth and layer in the game.  These hints of darker colors give you that uneasy feeling that something isn’t quite right with the world, a darkness that’s trying to take over.

divgaedmli0y2doacbsaThe fairytale like plot holds your attention quite well, and the story, though at times is distracting was superb! There’s a traveling jester who can’t figure out how rhyming works, a love-sick mouse archer, and most importantly, the main character that you get to play, a young girl named Aurora who’s trying to save her father. Aurora’s transformation from a frightened child to the hero of her own story is a journey worthy of the beautiful art work it’s accompanied by. Some modern RPGs suffer by either abandoning too much of the choice and depth that first made the genre interesting, or by piling on needless systems that don’t add anything to the experience. Child of Light makes neither of these mistakes, giving it a very balanced play style across the board.

col_screen06_156422This games biggest win is the combat system though, as it mixes a classic turn based system with some very beautiful real time elements, like icons that move a long the bottom of the screen indicating when you or your opponents turn is. Battling in the game is more then just mindless button pressing, or repetitive skill spamming, as hitting an enemy in the middle of an attack will interrupt them.  This element created a constant feeling of strategy and timing that had to be played, but also gave you a sense of great accomplishment which made it quite enjoyable!

One of the best parts is your companion Igniculus, which has a huge role in combat, exploring, and the overall game play.  He has the ability to heal allies, stun foes, light darkened paths and he is all controlled with the right thumb stick…..so there was a bit of a learning curve to control both characters, but overall it was super easy to learn!  This game also gives you the ability to fly very early on which played a huge part into the exploration of the world.  Again, this was a bit of a learning curve to control you, and your companion but something that was quite easy to get the hang of. This game worked well, played well, and overall held my attention through the entire story, keeping me engaged with something stunning and new at every screen!

Holy Patch Day for Destiny

bungie-destiny-s-april-update-will-not-revamp-vault-of-glass-crota-s-end-502042-2Destiny’s April 12th patch 2.2.0 update is an oh my goodness moment as I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited for a patch to hit a game.  When I first played Destiny it was not a pleasant experience during the first closed beta….see my review from a couple years ago.

Needless to say I picked the game up a month-ish ago and have enjoyed absolutely every single second of game play!  Other then the awe struck moments I get in The Division, this is by far my favorite console game!

So here’s what to expect once we get to boot back up in Destiny.

This patch will take Destiny to version 2.2.0, and it’s by far the largest update since The Taken King last September.  There’s so much to look forward to, including mass amounts of loot and activities to keep you quite busy, along with a new end-game activity, five brand new sets of armour, the return of year-one exotics and much more.

This is a fairly large download as it looks like the Xbox One and PS4 is around 1700 MB but for everything we are getting I can’t complain as we are getting a ton!

oaingrkvbw6wst3ocmg5.pngI’m super excited about the Challenge of the Elders – This is the section of GOLD for all us level 40’s who want to reach the new light cap of 335 as Bungie has reworked the Prison of Elders to give us something brand new, which is two new levels of difficulty, levels 41 & 42 which I’m sure are bonkers insane hard.  Four new bosses, yes, FOUR new bosses and new modifiers will be added. Level 41 includes match-making, and has a recommended Light level of 260 and apparently will drop gear up to light level 320.

I’m currently at a light level 294 and haven’t been able to run the King’s Fall Raid yet, as I literally just hit that a week ago.  Level 42 will be called Challenge of the Elders, it has no match-making, is recommended to be a light level 320 and this is where you can win the 335 armour and weapons.  Challenge of the Elders is fought over three rounds, much like the old Prison of Elders and each round with it’s own unique boss.  The scoring is interesting as your teams points will be tracked on a card called the Elder’s Sigil, and this is used for both the high score and cumulative score. If you and your team hit a high score of 30k during the run, then it’s a guaranteed win of a 335 weapon,  If you all hit 90k cumulative score each week, players will be guaranteed the 335 armour pieces, but the Challenge of Elders will reset each week, wiping the cumulative score….which honestly will be a nice little challenge for that new gear!

Here is what I’ve seen for the new run’s/strikes.

Challenge of the Elders will be a total of 16 encounters with variations of bosses and game modifiers.

Blighted Chalice – A brand new quest line and strike comes with this update.  Apparently the Taken are after Oryx’s crown again in this one….guess they will never learn that us Guardians just won’t let that happen.

Winters Run strike – Update to this strike is it’s being added back to the Heroic strike list and it will be Taken this time you battle, and has a chance to drop some nice loot.

Everything is going to increase in difficulty across the board and new rewards will be added to, The Court of Oryx, Heroic Strikes, Nightfalls, and The Kings Fall Raid.  Apparently Kings Fall Raid’s normal mode will now drop loot up to level 320, and the hard mode getting a boost up to the level 335 mark.

Malok_destinyLike I was saying previously I haven’t hit the previous light level cap of 320, and today’s update brings us the new light level of 335, hence all the gear boosts to 335 and I’m super pumped to see what they all look like, especially the Taken gear!  Included with the new armour sets is, three revamped faction sets….one for Future War Cult, Dead Orbit, and New Monarchy.  The other two sets of armour are brand new, one being the Desolate set which is the Taken armour I’m so anxious to get, and the other is Spektar armour which will have some color customization to it outside of shaders.

The way we infuse our weapons is also changing as it will now be a 1 for 1 level meaning you get the full light now and not just a percentage jump.  If you infuse a 320 item into a 310, you will now get a 320 light item! Super pumped about this, as I’ve got some goodies just waiting for my Warlock!

This isn’t even half of the updates we are getting but these were the major ones I found, and the exciting ones…but weapons, class updates etc are also coming.

Enjoy Guardians, and I will see you next time!

Starving in Don’t Starve – A Game Review

InsanityThis game drives me absolutely nuts in both a good and bad way.  I’ve spent hours just missing a moments notice of dying which is exciting and a fun aspect of this survival gem.  Though this game is the king of kings when it comes to busy work but you will likely enjoy every moment of it while being perturbed as you explore the vast environment, outfitting your toon, and making sure home base is safe and sound.  Now, that all sounds hunky dory but in one fell swoop all that time you’ve just spent just came to a screeching hault with a shadow monster invasion. It’s a roguelike at heart, meaning that death is inevitable, and once you die, it’s truly game over. Don’t Starve will never, ever hold your hand, and for that I love and hate the game to my wits end at times.

This roguelike plops you right smack dab into an amazing wilderness with a style like none other, so while your gawking at how beautiful the art is of this game, they up and leave you to figure out how to survive.  Some fans of the adventure/survival genre will enjoy this  as it gives them the freedom to express the patience and creativity it takes to play a game like this.  I was never able to connect fully with this game as it lacked any direction and didn’t have any goals to achieve other than staying alive.

don_t_starve_ps4_art_by_jeffagala-d76owmy.pngI was pretty much blown away with the graphical style of this game as it has a children’s storybook created by Tim Burton feel to it.  What makes this game well worth the time spent wondering amidst and dying is the comical bits you get throughout the story. The visuals are accompanied by a catchy soundtrack, that at first grabs the attention and perks your ears right up, but lacked any variation and looped quite often. This feature was quite annoying to me and really took away from the art style and graphics of the game, so needless to say I tend to listen to my own music while playing this game.

The idea of the game is as basic as any survival game can get: Explore the world and gather materials during the safety of daylight, survive the night by crafting a fire and consuming some food, rinse and repeat. While that sounds mundane at best to some, this game offers quite the challenge and comedy while doing it.  Amidst the comedy is a very tense struggle to survive which will bring you to the edge of your seat on how to accomplish that task. Death hangs around every corner of this game and no matter how safe you think you are…..BAM here comes a pack of screaming spiders, or a wild boar, or a huge one eyed bird ready to pluck you of life.

Of course, angry animals and strange creatures aren’t the only way to die in this game.  Just when I thought I was on the right track and doing well my sanity meter drained due to my character’s exhaustion, and my weak feeble little body was now on it’s last leg.  What do I do, eat something, build a fire, oh wait my brain is going nuts as I’ve been in the wild for 12 days now.  Basically anything and everything can cause death in this game so get ready to die and enjoy it while you do.

DntSrv1Unfair deaths do happen, and some of mine had to do with not being able to pick up a life-saving object that were right in front of me. While the overhead perspective helps show off the vast world and gives it a living, breathing, environment, it also creates very frustrating moments when items are hidden directly behind pieces of the environment. The thing about the vast landscapes is that there are lots of items in them, and there’s often times no angle from which you can click to pickup that item. When you’ve been running and gunning for hours and find yourself being chased by one of the many creatures in this world, this little bug becomes quite annoying as more than likely you will be restarting the game very soon.

The only real breaks in the what seems like a never ending cycle are the random portals scattered throughout the world that transport you to smaller, mission-based adventures.  These missions do help advance the interesting narrative, but completing them dropped me back into the dangerous wilds without the sense of accomplishment I so desperately craved.

Don't Starve Shipwrecked diaryWhen getting ready to play this game, I usually have to ask myself do I really want to spend the next 30 minutes starting over with everything?  Usually the first 30 minutes or so of each new game is an extremely dull, repetitive experience. Every time I come back to a new game I have gained some more knowledge of how to craft better items, or what areas to stay out of as they are just littered with creatures, but my character has lost all his belongings from previous, and forgotten how to craft many of the better items.  You will have to re-teach him if you want to continue on in those moments of survival.

To me those introductory game moments need more variety and whether that comes from different/bigger random events or character abilities doesn’t matter, but this game needs something to make all the dying feel more like losing progress in your story instead of being stuck in the movie groundhog day. That special something is definitely missing from the game right now.  Klei entertainment has continued to release updates to the game and it will be exciting to see this game mature in content.

All Things Geekery Podcast – Episode 1 The Rise & Fall of Virtual Reality

What a crazy ride this has been but a ride well worth the wait as WE, myself and Victus made our first podcast!  Yes, another podcast about stuff, geeky stuff to be specific.

We’ve been working on this thing for a long time, and we have probably hit every little bump along the way….but we stuck with our passion and we knew VICTORY would be ours in the end, as we triumphantly defeated those pesky technical issues that kept haunting us over the last few months.

In our very first episode we get a bit sidetracked for a few minutes and talk about our recent gaming adventures in Fallout 4, Destiny, and the awe inspiring wonder of The Division.

Then we move right into the main content for this episode which is….The rise and fall AND rise again of virtual reality.

This process has been such a fun journey to dive into, and at times we dove into the deep end of the pool when all the water had been drained out, but overall WE did it!!

We are still in the process of getting approvals for iTunes, but we are super excited to share this with everyone and hope you enjoy, so give us a shout and feedback as we’d love to hear from you all!

Here is our RSS feed which you can also paste into whichever app you enjoy using for podcatching.

The Walking Dead Game – Season 2 – Episode 3 – In Harms Way Review

twd-harmswayartHey again everyone!

It has been a minute or two since I did my last write up on this wonderful game back on episode 2 which I thought was one of the best episodes to date, but I was wrong as In Harms Way, has brought the bar up to a brand new level!

This episode was difficult from multiple levels as it makes you question the decisions you’ve made for sure.  Ever had that moment during a game of this type “If I had been more willing to do things differently, would more people still be here and alive?” Well, this game hits you like that around ever corner it seems.  One good thing I’ve learned is this episode wasn’t anything like the previous, and as good as the content was I never want to work through that episode again to see if I get any different outcomes…..long pause “Whew”.

In Harm’s Way takes the characters in this story line to their absolute breaking points, both physically and mentally.  All of the scenes you get to live through brought a satisfaction that can only come with The Walking Dead’s style, as they gave you a very memorable but yet disgusted since of accomplishment in the game.

TWD_203_CarverThis story became dark quickly and all happiness, smiles, and sense of safety was sucked from the monitor you’ve been watching.  Clementine’s new family has now just been imprisoned by Bill Carver, the maniac who debuted in Episode 2: A House Divided.  Clementine and her gang’s overnight escape plans put everyone at risk, and the story line built a very uncomfortable and surprising climax which will make you squirm in your very seat.

This episode takes you down a very dark and hopeless road towards Episode 4, as Bill Carver brings things to a screeching halt and creates a fear among the group we haven’t seen yet. is about as bleak as this franchise has ever been, and what little optimism exists is only here to remind you how easily it can be used against you.  Carver is probably the most frightening enemy to date, as things escalate to a level of unpredictability on what this mad man will do next each time you make a step in the game.

The-Walking-Dead-Season-2-Episode-3-Will-Launch-Sooner-Dev-Interested-in-PS4-429951-2Telltale games has done something pretty magnificent with this episode as they have made me play Clementine completely different.  Her bitterness in previous episodes was changed as she opened up in this episode to the people she found and so quickly became family with.  This was all done because of Carver and his psycho tendencies, as it pulled you away and shows what can happen when you become cold and don’t cherish life.

My favorite part of this episode was the emphasis, and focus they put on the group of people around Clementine.  There was very little exploration out in the environment and completely left the puzzle features behind.  This for all intensive purposes is a human episode, so there’s little room for the more involved “play” aspects of this adventure game.  Surprising enough even though we didn’t get the exploration or interaction as we did in previous episodes, this episode made up for it in, discomfort, tension, and emotional character development that in my opinion is the best to date.

I have no idea what the game holds in Episode 4 for Clementine and her group, but I can’t wait to see the next steps in the story and see the people Clem is with to a better place.

Until next time!

The Forest of Fangorn

treebeardThis is one of the most majestic, secluded, and peacful places in Middle Earth and it’s also home to Fangorn which was the original name of Treebeard.  He was the eldest of his species the “Ents” who looked after vast areas of the surrounding land which was named Fangorn Forest. Additionally, Fangorn translated in Sindarin from “fanga” meaning “beard” and “orne” meaning “tree”.  Sindarin was the language of the elves who originally awoke the Ents and taught them language.   In other parts of Middle Earth, Fangorn was knows as the “Entwood” by the Rohirrim.

Treebeard also referred to the forest by many different Quenya names in the Lord of the Rings, some of which were Ambrona which meant uprising, or Tauremornalome which meant sunrise.   Some other names he used were Tauremorna which meant gloomy forest as the folk of Middle Earth had heard many strange stories about Fangorn, some of which spoke about trees who moved and even spoke.

The Forest of Fangorn was located at the south-eastern end of the Misty Mountains near the Gap of Rohan. The mountains formed the western border of Fangorn. At the end of the mountain range stood the tower of Isengard the home of Saruman.  Rohan surrounded this forest to both the south and east, and Lothlorien just to the north.  This was a large forest that stretched many miles, with many paths to be traveled.  Two rivers ran through the forest as well, the Limlight to the north formed the northern border of Rohan which then merged with the much larger Anduin.  To the south, the Entwash spread deep into the forest arriving from Methedras, a mountainous region located near the Misty Mountains. The valley of Derndingle was located just to the south-west which is where the Entwash passed into Wellinghall just past the home of Treebeard.

Fangorn was said to be humid, and the trees trunks grew large with dense foliage which allowed very little to penetrate the forest. Similarly, Fangorn was said to be a dangerous and evil place like Mirkwood where huge spiders roamed the forest and other evil creatures lay, but this unlike Mirkwood had not been corrupted in such a way.  This forest was home to many different creatures but Huorns also lived in the forest, similar to Ents but more discreet and lived very deep in the forest.

hobbitsmeettreebeardOne of the greatest and also oddly sized meetings in the forest was when Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took entered the forest meeting Treebeard and alerted him of the danger Saruman posed to the Ents and their forest. Following an Entmoot, the rest of the Ents agreed to march against Isengard, taking Merry and Pippin with them, and sent Huorns to Helm’s Deep to deal with the Orcs there. Part of the Ents’ anger was caused by Saruman’s Orcs chopping down the trees at the south and west side of the forest. It was especially notable in that Fangorn Forest was embodied by Treebeard.

Other famed visitors to this great forest were Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas as they entered the forest to search for Merry and Pippin. They encountered an old Man dressed in white which at first they believed to be Saruman before realizing that it was Gandalf, whom they thought had been killed at Khazad-dum.

Fangorn forest was, just the easternmost remnant of the immense forest that spanned all of Eriador and Calenardhon in the First Age and early Second Age. Treebeard expressed a deep sadness at the loss of the forest to the Orcs and to the age of Men and their machines. The rest of the forest was destroyed by the Numenoreans and Sauron. This portion of the forest was the the oldest part of Treebeard’s realm, and the Ents’ last retreat.

Writing In a Winter Snow Storm

writing-a-book

Hello again everyone!

It has been around a month since my last legit post and that has been strategic, and completely on purpose.  It’s that time of year where our families schedule becomes insane, but like I said it’s on purpose.  This time of year for us is busy with family events and time for us to relax, escape with each other and do those fun family things together.

This has not only been a busy few months but an extremely busy year in total.  As a husband and father to seven year old triplets life has a way of pulling your attention to the important things.  We as a family have always been prioritized, but as everyone we can stray away from those “Important Things” and have to wrangle our small attention spans back in to focus.

I’ve had to slow down the frequency of blogging lately mainly because I can’t create more than 24 hours in a day…though I wish I could sometimes.  This summer was a killer in hours for me due to a very large project at work I was managing in which I was having to work both days & nights a lot of the summer.  With that being said, the project was overall a pretty good success and allowed me to manage a team of people who could make it a success in future years.  Now that the summer has passed and winter is upon us…which happens to be my favorite time of year BTW.

That brings me to my next statement and why I named this blog post what I did.  Winter is my favorite due to a lot of reasons, but one very important and dear to my heart is writing and creativity for me started one very cold winter when I was just a young boy in which I got to read “The Hobbit” for the very first time.

This sparked a passion for writing, creativity, reading and knowing one day I would write my own book, or books.  That has been many years ago and even though my background in school was majoring in creative writing and arts, I ended up being a project manager of all things.  Now that doesn’t mean I’ve lost the passion to write, but what it does mean is I have to prioritize my time so that I can continue my passion of writing.  That prioritization comes in many forms and sometimes it means taking a break from writing which I think any writer out there could say the same thing.

Writing to me is always like writing in a snow storm and the reason I say that is,  “A snow storm is beautiful chaos filled with creativity and awe inspiring moments of it’s ability to fascinate the mind and be completely unique every time it happens.”  This is why I love winter and why I will always continue to love writing no matter the form it comes in.

To all those creative minds and soon to be, thinking about, am doing writers out there I prod you to find what inspires you to do what you love.

One of my  favorite quotes and something I always try to remember, “Writing is easy. All you have to do is cross out the wrong words” – Mark Twain

Keep writing and having fun while you do it ya’ll!

Cheers!

The Kings of Gondor – Part Eight – Battle of the Plains

Greetings Middle Earth Wanderers,

It has literally been months since I wrote episode seven and that is mainly due to a needing a break from writing.  During this series I have also been in the middle of writing my own novel along with a couple of other projects.  Needless to say I was burning out and had to trim some of the projects.  Unfortunately this was one that I had to pause, but we are back on track once again.

In our last episode we left off with with Gondor retaking Umbar and king Telumehtar defeating the Corsairs and this this week we pick up with week we pick up with Telumehtar’s son, Narmacil who became the 29th king of Gondor.

Tower of EchelionThe Tower of Ecthelion

We don’t have a great deal of information on Narmacil, but what we do know is He had a very brief reign as king.  During his sixth year a group of Easterlings called the Wainriders overran the territories of Gondor’s eastern bank of the Anduin.  Narmacil prepared his armies and marched to Rhovanion to confront the invaders, but he was unsuccessful and was slain during the Battle of the Plains.  His son Calimethar took the throne in early in the third age after his fathers death becoming the 30th king of Gondor.

During his reign as king the Wainriders once again became a threat to Gondor and the lands to the west. In this time Calimehtar built the White Tower of Ecthelion which was the tall tower in the Citadel of Minas Tirith, and on top of this great tower waved the banner of Gondor that arose one thousand feet into the air.  The king was also tipped off to the impending invastion from the Wainriders by his good friends and ally’s the Eotheod.  They were a race of Northmen and were the ancestors of the Rohirrim.  It was The Eotheod leader Marhwini who warned the king about the invasion, which gave Gondor the time needed to assemble an army in Ithillien which was the eastern most province of Gondor.

Calimehtar took his army and marched north, sending his calvary to attack the unguarded enemy in the undeeps which were two great westward lands of the Anduin, located between the Brown Lands and the great Wold of Rohan.  The king and his Eothod allies finally met the Wainriders in Dagorlad and defeated them.  He had avenged his fathers death, and the great victory inspired the slaves in Rhovanion to rebel against the Easterling slavers.  Calimehtar ruled Gondor for eighty years, and died in the third age passing the crown to his only son Ondoher.

img-wainridersThe Wainriders Return

Ondoher succeeded his father Calimehtar and his daughter Fíriel married Prince Arvedui of Arthedain.  Not to long after Ondoher took the crown, the Wainriders invaded Gondor from the east while their allies, the Haradrim invaded Gondor from the south. Ondoher and his eldest son Artamir led the main army close to the Black Gate where they clashed with the Wainriders. The left wing of Ondoher’s army was commanded by Adrahil, the Prince of Dol Amroth. The right wing was commanded by Minothar, the captain of Gondor’s armies. The center was commanded by Ondoher himself.

In the ensuing battle Ondoher was slain together with his eldest son and heir Artamir, and Gondor defeated. The rearguard of the army defended Ithilien while Adrahil got help from General Earnil who defeated the Haradrim.  Though Earnil finally defeated the Wainriders it was learned that Ondoher’s second son Faramir (not to be confused with Faramir, brother of Boromir) was slain with his father, while law required that at least one heir to the throne be left behind.

No-one with a valid claim to the throne could be found, and Arvedui of Arthedain claimed the throne. Although Arvedui had a strong claim by his way of his wife Fíriel, who by ancient Numenorean law now should have become Ruling Queen.  Earnil II was selected to become king after his predecessor, King Ondoher and his heirs, were slain in battle. In the previous year an attack had been launched upon Gondor by the Haradrim and the Wainriders. In response, King Ondoher led the main army north to counter the Easterling invasion at Dagorlad and was defeated. Earnil was commander of Gondor’s southern army and guarded Pelargir. Earnil led his army to the Crossings of the Poros where he defeated the Haradrim. This enabled him to turn his attention to the invading Wainriders. The Wainriders, certain of victory, were celebrating their success before they would enter Minas Anor. They were unaware of Earnil’s victory in the south and were taken by surprise when Earnil attacked them and resulted in the victory of the Battle of the Camp

FornostGondor’s Long Wait For a King

After the threat was eliminated Gondor’s attention shifted towards Steward Pelendur and the Council of Gondor, for King Ondoher along with his two sons were slain at Dagorlad.  Both he and prince Arvedui had claim to the throne. Arvedui based his claim on that he was the direct descendant of Isildur (second High King of Arnor and Gondor and uncle to Meneldil first King of Gondor), and as the husband of Firiel, only surviving child of King Ondoher. The claim was rejected and Earnil of the House of Anarion was elected king for his deeds, heritage, and because the Steward, Pelendur, claimed that “The crown and royalty of Gondor belongs solely to the heirs of Meneldil, son of Anarion, to whom Isildur relinquished this realm. In Gondor, this heritage is reckoned through the sons only; and we have not heard that the law is otherwise in Arnor”.

Aside from being a gifted general Earnil was also a wise ruler. He sent messages to Arvedui announcing that he received the crown of Gondor, according to the laws and the needs of the South-Kingdom, “but I do not forget the royalty of Arnor, nor deny our kinship, or wish that the realms of Elendil be estranged. I will send to your aid when you have need, so far as I am able.” That time came finally came for Earnil as messages came to Gondor that Arthedain was in grave danger, and that the Witch-King of Angmar was preparing to strike against them. Earnil sent his son Earnur north with a fleet, as swiftly as he could, and with as great a strength as he could spare to aid Arvedui. Earnur arrived too late to save Arthedain and Arvedui who had fled north and drowned in the Ice-Bay of Forochel, but had managed to defeat the host of Angmar’s army in the Battle of Fornost with the help of Cirdan, the Lord of the Grey Havens and Glorfindl with an army from Rivendell. There, Earnur earned the hatred of the Witch-king.  Earnil died late in the Third Age after a rule of ninety-eight years and was succeeded by his son Earnur, who was as good a general as his father but lacked his wisdom.  This marked a very long void in Gondor’s throne before the heir of Isildur returned.

Until next time, I’m your host Iogro Merrybelly and I bid you a fine farewell!

Back To The Future – The Game – Great Scott

adventure_game_back_to_the_future_ep_1_hd_for_ipad_2When this game first came out, I never gave it a blink of an eye or a seconds thought as I was just to darn busy playing other games.  The thought of this game peaked my interest a few weeks ago when I was browsing around on Steam and saw they had a 75% sale on TellTale games.  This was one of the games that was on sale amongst a handful of other great games but I really wanted to play Back to the Future.

Seeing how today 10/21/2015 is the official Back to the Future day I thought it fitting to give a quick blurb on my thoughts of the game.  TellTale did a fantastic job as the games story unfolds over five episodes which is set as a sequel to the original movie trilogy.  You of course get to play the iconic characters of the movie lie Marty McFly, and Doc Brown who invented the famous time machine.  He has gone back to the 1930’s and been framed for arson which makes for a very interesting story plot.  The overall game is TellTales classic third person point and click adventure game all based around the plot of the story.  While playing the game you’ll notice that messing with time jacks things up just as it did in the movies.  It’s cool being able to play the game and tie things back to the films as It just adds to the great legacy of those wonderful films all of of 80’s children grew up with.

back-to-the-future-2-530x2851When episode one kicks off we learn that Doc has been gone for months and Marty is having a really hard time dealing with him being gone.  We get to see a ton of the story that you don’t get to see from the films which is one of the draw factors for the game in my personal opinion. The game is very cartoonish at times which I don’t mind most of the times.  While playing you get to see a drastic change in the story as it bounces all over the place but the game doesn’t lose any of it’s appeal. The voice acting in the game is top notch which helps draw you into the story, characters, and the great world you get to explore in this game.

Over the next couple of weeks I will explore all the episodes and have a review of each one.  I’m anxious to play through all the game, meet the characters and see how things end for Marty and Doc.

Until next time
